Home & School Association

The parent organization at St. Louis is known as the Home & School Association.   Parent volunteers assume the many officer positions, with responsibilities ranging from fund-raising efforts to room mothers to coordination of volunteers for the library, cafeteria and art classes.  There are numerous ways for parents to participate in Home & School at a time convenient for their schedule, during the school day, in the evenings or on the weekends.  Home & School meetings are held monthly and are a great way to be involved and meet other parents at St. Louis School.

Letter from Home & School President

Dear Parents and Families of St. Louis School,

It is my honor and privilege to serve as Home and School President for 2011-2012.  I have enjoyed working on many different committees while my children have attended school and I look forward to this opportunity.  My husband Kevin and I have three children.  Our daughter Kara is in the fifth grade.  We also have two sons, Carson a fourth grader and Harrison is in Kindergarten.  One of the reasons we enrolled our children at SLS was because of how family oriented the school was.  We felt that instantly and our children are really happy here.  We have enjoyed the fellowship here and have made great friends that we know will stand the test of time.  My hope this year is to get to know as many of you as possible while we work together in helping our school.

I would like to take this time to welcome you all to the Home and School Association.  I look forward to working with many of you on all the exciting and important things we do for and with the school.  We help host many of the receptions, we volunteer in the library and cafeteria, we staff and stock the concession stand, and we pray for and provide meals for families in need.  The Home and School Association also fundraises for the school.  We sell wrapping paper for our fall fundraiser, we sponsor the Cardinal 5K and our biggest fundraiser of the school year is the Spring Auction.  None of these things are possible without parent volunteers.

I know we are all being pulled many different directions, but I ask that you all consider being an active part of this very important organization during this school year.  Thank you in advance for your consideration, for all of you who have volunteered already and those of you that I know will step up to the challenge in helping to make this year a huge success!

Sincerely yours,

Haden Kane

St. Louis Home and School President

2011-2012

Letter from Home & School Vice President

Dear Families of St. Louis,

I want to welcome you all to the 2011-2012 school year. Haden and I are very excited to be a part of the Home and School and look forward to working with each of you. Having been a part of the St. Louis community for over twelve years, I consider it to be a part of my family. I am always in awe as the school year goes on at how lucky we are to be a part of such a family-oriented church and school. My children have thrived in education and we have made relationships that will last a lifetime.  I am so excited to see what lies ahead in the future of our school with all the renovations that will be happening. Our children and their children will benefit greatly!! I am proud to be serving the Home and School this year and hope you will join me as we make this school year a success!! What we do for the Home and School will not only help our school, but will also help our children.

Sincerely,

Dena Soefker

Cardinal Cares

I. What is it?

A group started to help St. Louis families by providing meals in their time of need. For example, a parent or child, with a serious medical diagnosis like cancer, severe car accident, or even the birth of a baby.

II. How does it work?

We are asking for volunteers to sign up to be on a master list of contacts in case a need arises to provide a family with meals. The volunteers on the list will be contacted via email with a request to provide meals.

We will send out an email with the start date of the meals and the days of the week that meals are requested. Volunteers would go to www.takethemameal.com to sign up to provide a meal. Instructions for how to use the website will be provided. Using the website is simple!

It is our hope that many families volunteer to be on the email list. If you are contacted and not available at that time, just delete the email and you will be contacted again if the need arises.

If you know someone who needs meals to help them through a crisis contact Kelly Wilson at kellysheawilson@bellsouth.net or Jeni McBride at ndsmc@comcast.net or you may contact the school office.  We will contact the family and arrange for meals to begin.

Cardinal Connect

Cardinal Connect is a new family welcoming committee that connects families that have been at St. Louis School for more than a year (host families) with incoming new families by either phone or e-mail.  The host families welcome the new families into the St. Louis community and invite them to participate in many of the activities available at our growing school.  If you are interested in getting involved with Cardinal Connect, please contact Carol Sweeney at johncarolsweeney@yahoo.com or 761-6855.

Fundraising

Grocery Cards

Earn St. Louis Tuition Credit Schnuck’s or Kroger Grocery Cards

That’s right! By using your St. Louis Schnuck’s or Kroger grocery cards, you can earn tuition credit! For every dollar you load on your grocery card, the St. Louis Home & School Association receives 5%, and half of that amount, 2.5%, is credited to your tuition account.

$500/month spent on groceries/gas X 2.5% = $12.50

$12.50 X 12 months = $150 tuition credit

The Kroger card costs $5 which is already loaded on the card, and the Schnuck’s card is free. They are used just like a debit card. You load them with the amount of money you want, and then you just use your debit card to make the purchases. Don’t forget that you can also use these same cards to buy gas at Kroger and Schnuck’s gas stations. You can also give the cards to grandparents, aunts and uncles and friends, and any amount they spend will be credited to your tuition account also. You can double your tuition credit in the example above just by having your parents spend $500 on the cards each month.

To obtain a Schnuck’s or Kroger card, please send an envelope marked “Grocery Cards” to school and enclose your name, telephone number, the number of cards requested, whether Kroger or Schnuck’s and $5 cash or check (payable to St. Louis Home & School) for each Kroger card.

Your tuition credit will be credited semi-annually after the Home & School receives the payments and balances the grocery account statements. Tuition credits for January – June will be applied to your October statement. No cash rebates will be made. If you no longer attend St. Louis, all proceeds will be retained by the Home & School Association.

Boxtops

Clip Box Tops–earn cash for our school! Earn cash for our school every time you shop for groceries. Clip Box Tops from hundreds of your favorite products.* Each Box Tops coupon is worth 10¢ to our school—and that adds up fast!

Boxtops are collected by the classroom teachers on a monthly basis, with rewards given to the classes with most contributed boxtops, ranging from a Jeans Day to a free ice cream treat in the cafeteria.

Treasurer's Policies

St. Louis Home & School Association

Treasurer Policies 2011-2012

The following is some information regarding deposits, expense reimbursements, and cash boxes that I hope will be helpful in the year ahead.

 Deposits

  • All deposits will be made by Judi Herbers in the church office.
  • Deposits can be dropped off either in the school office or church office.
  • There will be forms available in both offices that need to be fully completed when dropping off a deposit.  The form will include the amount to be deposited, who is dropping the deposit off, from what source the deposit is coming (concessions, sportswear, etc.), and contact information in case of questions.  The form is actually a sticker that can then be applied to the envelope containing the deposit.
  • It is very important for proper tracking that we know where the funds are coming from!

 Reimbursements

  • If you have expenses for which you need to be reimbursed, there are forms in the school office to be completed.  Or you can contact me and I would be happy to email you a copy.
  • Completed expense forms can be left in the school office for me or mailed to my home address found on the form.
  • Please attach all applicable receipts and be as specific as possible regarding the event or reason for the expense.
  • To ensure that we can accurately calculate the cost and, hopefully, income from our various events, you must submit any expenses for reimbursement by the end of the month following the month of the expense.  For example, if you have a receipt from any date in October, submit by November 30th for reimbursement.  Any receipts submitted after that date will not be reimbursed.

 Cash Boxes

  • Anna Shelton will have cash boxes in the church office for both concessions and sportswear.
  • There is a sign-out log for these cash boxes.  Please be sure to follow the procedure and sign them out.
  • Cash boxes should be returned to the office.  Anna will then create a deposit for the amount collected over and above the petty cash that remains in the box.

We are hoping to have another great year and think that these guidelines will help us be as successful as possible.  Thank you!
